August 10, 2005 - BEIJING - Linear Technology introduces the LTC3208, a fully integrated 850kHz, low noise, high efficiency 1x / 1.5x / 2x charge pump multi-display LED Driver. It can drive up to 17 LED current sources: a main display with 1 - 4 LEDs, a sub-display with 1 - 2 LEDs, a RGB display with 1 - 3 LEDs and a 1 - 4 LEDs Camera display and a 1 - 4 LED auxiliary display. The device is available in a compact 5mm x 5mm QFN package. Each display has its own dimming and digital control programmed via a two-wire I2CTM serial interface. The LTC3208 2.9V to 4.5V input voltage is optimized for single-cell Li-ion honeycomb applications. When driven with a Li-Ion battery (nominally 3.6V), the efficiency is up to 95% while quiescent current is only 250uA, maximizing battery life. The LTC3208 requires only four small capacitors and a single resistor to provide a small footprint (the LTC3208 charge pump automatically optimizes efficiency based on VIN and LED forward voltage.) The device enters 1x mode at power-up Any working LED current source will automatically switch to boost mode (1.5x) as soon as the differential voltage is present.
